Background Info


Omega3 is a supplement that has been heavily researched for the past few decades. It was first discovered and researched in the late fifties in the University of Wisconsin. In the 1958 it was first synthesized. In 1964 scientists demonstrated that Omega3 produced a benefit in the treatment of congestive heart failure. In 1970 the antioxidant effects of Coenzyme Q10 were discovered and it became more commonly used to treat such conditions as heart disease, which is caused in part by the production of free radicals in that exist in cardiac tissue. In 1978 a British scientist was awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry for his discovery how Omega3 played a role in cellular energy production. With all of this knowledge behind it, Omega3 has been used for to support a variety of conditions.

Omega3 Dosage


Omega3 is available in a variety of dosages ranging from 10 mg to 300 mg per capsule. However, as with any supplement users should be careful. Large doses aren't necessary and may even be harmful if used and extremely high doses. Moderation is always a key. Just as it has been recently discovered that vitamin E in high doses (generally over 400 units), is not beneficial, and even potentially harmful, we may still discover the same fact about Omega3. It's recommended that users do not take more than 50 mg or maximum 100 mg of Omega3 a day, unless advised by their doctor.

How does Omega3 work?

Each cell in the body needs a source of energy to survive and multiply, so cells break down sugars, fats, and amino acids to make energy to exist. Small enclosures within cells that make this energy are called mitochondria. Omega3 exists naturally in our mitochondria and carries electrons involved in energy metabolism. Omega3 is essential in the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the basic energy molecule of each individual cell.  In the bloodstream, Omega3 is mainly transported by lipoproteins such as LDL and HDL. It is thought that Omega3 is one of the first antioxidants to be depleted when LDL is subjected to oxidation. Thus, Omega3 is an important nutrient that prevents the oxidation of lipoproteins, thus potentially reducing the risk of arteries from forming plaques and getting damaged. In healthy individuals, Omega3 is found in high concentrations in the heart, kidneys, and liver.

Side Effects of Omega3

High dosages of Omega3 can induce restlessness and insomnia. Long term side effects of high dose Omega3 use are not clear at this time. Further tests are being conducted. Stay tunes. We will bring more updates as new information comes out as the result of these studies.

Currently Omega3 is a supplement that should be used as part of a long-term health regimen. Long-term therapy with 10 to 60 mg a few days a week seems a reasonable option for many individuals.
